Vlog #1: The Beginning

The artists of Dana Lawton Dances are thrilled to be back together for our first rehearsal since mid-March, when COVID-19 shut down the world. We had been busy in the dance studio for the past two years, creating our evening length dance performance, "The Farallonites," which was set to premiere at the Cowell Theatre in San Francisco in April 2020. Due to the shelter-in-place orders and restrictions on live events we had to cancel the April performance, and as restrictions continue we do not yet have a new premiere date.

In July, with safety protocols in place, the company decided to resume rehearsals with the simple objective of finding solace in movement and the creation of art and the comfort of being with dear friends during this difficult time. This has brought us all a lot of joy and we hope to share that joy through a series of video logs that we will share with you as long as it continues to be safe for us to gather and dance together.

Dancers: Olutola Afolayan, Leah Curran, Colin McDowell, Robin Nasatir, Vera Schwegler, Jennifer Smith, and Kara Townsend. Poetry by Jennifer Kulbeck. Sound score by Thomas Edler. Videography and editing by Henry Lawton.
